This International Standard provides a catalogue of metallographic photomicrographs for the designation ofmicrostructures of alpha+beta titanium alloys in the form of bars that are intended for the manufacture ofsurgical implants. This International Standard is applicable to bars of diameter no greater than 100 mm or theequivalent.This catalogue of microstructures is intended to serve as an aid in the communication on general types ofmicrostructures of alpha+beta titanium alloy bars. The designation of the microstructures is based onmorphological appearance. Actual microstructures can also appear as a combination of the type ofmicrographs shown.This International Standard does not contain specific microstructural requirements. The catalogue includesphotomicrographs of desirable and undesirable microstructures that can develop during the processing ofalpha+beta titanium alloys. The selection of acceptable microstructures is subject to agreement under the consideration of implant application and relevant material standards.

Le présent document a pour objectif de fournir un catalogue de micrographies métallographiques pour la désignation des microstructures d'alliages de titane alpha+bêta sous forme de barres destinées à la fabrication d'implants chirurgicaux. Le présent document a été élaboré suite aux demandes répétées de disposer d'un document normatif d'accès facile reprenant l'ensemble de ces microstructures qui au préalable étaient citées dans la brochure ETTC 2 publiée en 1979 par le Comité technique des producteurs de titane et qui avait été rééditée en 1995 pour y incorporer quelques ajouts.
